Kraig Cabe graduated from Indiana Wesleyan in 1996 with bachelor’s degrees in Management and Finance. He works as the Indiana State Director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), impacting high school students, athlete or not, around the world for the glory of Christ. FCA’s goal is to “Unite your two passions, faith and athletics, to impact the world for Jesus Christ.” The program has been dedicated to equipping coaches, athletes and fans for over 60 years. Cabe aids the 364 FCA ministries in Indiana that reach approximately 20,000 people each year.
While Cabe now works to equip coaches and athletes to know Christ better and spread The Gospel, he spoke of his decision to attend Indiana Wesleyan years before and how the school prepared him for this career path, “IWU was really the only school I considered. My mom worked there and my brother, who was two years older, was having a great experience at IWU, so it was really pretty simple in my mind.” Cabe mentioned two general education classes that influenced him most, “The foundation I received from the Old Testament and New Testament survey classes established a biblical understanding that I greatly appreciate as well.”
During his time at IWU, Cabe had the opportunity to attend a mission trip to Nepal with other students. He said, “This particular experience stretched my faith and had a tremendous impact on my life.” The relationships with other students and professors, as well as the chapel times, led his faith in God down a path of spiritual growth. This spiritual growth influences the people Cabe encounters each and every day, guiding himself and others to a place of complete surrender.
Cabe excelled spiritually and academically during his years at IWU. FCA is a growing organization, and Cabe said, “My business degree is used regularly as we deal with finances and the complexity of growing organizations. It taught me the technical skills necessary to lead an organization, but also the importance of integrity and ethics in dealings with others.” Cabe mentioned that in his classes, he was introduced to Ravi Zacharias and still listens to his podcasts. He also said, “I was also introduced to the writings of Larry Burkett and saw how the scriptures applied to the present day world of finance.”
The FCA organization focuses on a deep walk with Christ, seeking Him in athletics, but also in every moment of one’s life. Cabe stated, “IWU reminded me that my walk with Christ will impact everything else I do – my work, my family, etc. My depth of understanding of the Scriptures grew tremendously while I was at IWU as well as my commitment and conviction to serve The Lord wherever He would lead.”
Cabe continuously lives out a life of complete surrender for Christ, and encourages others to do so also, “As I mentioned, my walk with Christ influences every area of my life. I also understand that it’s not just those in full-time ministry who have completely surrendered. In my role in FCA, I have the opportunity to interact with other staff, board members, coaches, athletes, parents, business men and women and those in public office who serve The Lord as any in full-time ministry.” Cabe reminds those around him of the importance of exemplifying complete trust in The Lord.
Currently, Cabe resides in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with his wife Christy and their three kids, Karson, Karly and Kenzie. Christy has just published her first book, Brownie Crumbs and Other Life Morsels.
