Simplicity in Christ

To “think simply” sounds easy, enjoyable and stress-free. Realistically, though, thinking simple is so difficult in today’s culture, especially during the holiday season. Events, advertisements, to-do lists, friends and even family clutter our minds.

Thinking simply does not mean we have to eliminate these sources of clutter completely. It means that we should bring them into our lives with a different approach. When life starts to get complicated and cluttered, that is a sign we are steering away from the simplest truth available: Christ is alive in you. It’s simple: the main purpose in life is to have faith and obey the Lord. Everything that works against that purpose moves us from simplicity to chaos.

2 Corinthians 11:3 states, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” (KJV) Paul was addressing the people of Corinth, warning them that people would try to give them a false gospel that was overly complicated. This is contrary to the simplicity that Christ offers.

We can learn from Paul’s words of wisdom by understanding that through Christ we can unclutter our lives. Through all that we hear and see in society today, we are able to find simplicity in the truth and existence of Jesus Christ.
